Hooks and Ladders
I wrote a book with the help of my friend, Joy Fuller. The book, Hooks and Ladders, gives people, who are unfamiliar with Evangelical Christianity, insights into the history, beliefs, and culture of Evangelical Christianity. In particular, it breaks down the pervasive principles and rules that govern their communities. To make learning about the rules that Evangelicals use more enjoyable, I compared the lives of Evangelical Christians to people playing a children’s game like Chutes and Ladders. Of course, in Hooks and Ladders, winners go to heaven, and losers go to hell. The most influential Evangelical Christians have typically invested a lot of time and effort trying to figure out who will win Hooks and Ladders. After all, not everyone who professes faith in Christ is a true believer, according to Evangelicals. Thus, most Evangelical communities have remarkably similar rules that help them separate the winners, losers, and posers.

Here are the rules of Hooks and Ladders:

Rule 1: Evangelical Christians always win Hooks And Ladders.
Rule 2: Evangelical Christians are always correct.
Rule 3: Only Evangelical Christians have the privilege to determine truth.

In the book, Joy Fuller and I describe how Evangelicals find themselves in all sorts of trouble trying to implement and follow these rules.
